OAKLAND — The city is offering residents some supplies in preparation for
the wet weather to come, including sandbags and plastic sheeting.
Beginning today, Oaklanders are allotted up to 20 sandbags and 50 feet of
plastic sheeting per household or business, with proof of residency,
available for pick up from Public Works Agency service centers. A limited
number of sandbags — up to five — are available at select fire stations
throughout the city.

The city suggests that residents help protect properties from storm-related
damage by: cleaning private drainage systems; not putting debris near storm
drains; putting leaves and green trimmings in the green, yard waste bin or
in paper bags and setting them at the curb for recycling; keeping natural
waterways such as creeks and ditches free from obstruction and reporting
flood problems to the Public Works Agency.

Individuals or groups are encouraged to help out further by volunteering in
the Maintain-a-Drain Campaign. In return for keeping a storm drain clear to
prevent flooding during rainy season, volunteers receive a free set of rain
gear, a rake and debris bags.

Up to 20 sandbags and 50 feet of plastic sheeting can be picked up: from 8
a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and
Sunday at the Municipal Service Center, 7101 Edgewater Drive, or the
satellite office, 5921 Shepherd Canyon Road.

Up to five sandbags can be picked up from Oakland fire stations from 8 a.m.
to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday or 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
at:

- Fire Station No. 3, 1445 14th St.
