Also note: Nursery events in December will take place on Thursdays, 12/9 & 12/16, 1:30-4:30pm.
 
 
 
December-January FOSC Events
 
* Creek Restoration Work Days, Dimond Park, 3860 Hanly Rd., Oakland


Solstice Planting Event, Saturday, December 11th, 8:45am-noon
MLK Day Weekend Service Event, Saturday, January 15th, 9am-noon
Join the Friends of Sausal Creek for a morning or invasive species removal, planting natives, and cleaning up the creek! Meet at the Scout Hut (small building adjacent to the swimming pool, between the basketball court and restrooms) at 9am to sign-in and grab tools. Please wear long sleeves, pants, and sturdy shoes. Bring a water bottle and sun protection. Minors need a signed waiver to participate. RSVP for groups of 4 or more, drop-ins welcome. * Solstice Planting Event, Joaquin Miller Park Sequoia Arena, 10060 Skyline Blvd, Oakland

Help restore the wetlands, uplands, and redwood understory at the Sequoia Arena in Joaquin Miller Park by planting native species. To get there: take Joaquin Miller Rd to Skyline Blvd for about 1 mile, and look for the signs on your left marking the Sequoia Arena Parking lot.  Please bring sun protection, sturdy work clothes and shoes, and water.  Minors need a signed waiver to participate.  For more information or to RSVP, contact Megan at field at sausalcreek.org.
 
* Solstice Planting Event, Barry Place, East 27th St. and Barry Place, Oakland
·       Saturday, December 11th, 9am-noon
Spend a morning in the lower watershed planting native plants and cleaning up the creek!  Please wear sturdy work clothes and shoes, and bring water.  We'll provide instruction, gloves and tools.  Directions from the North: Take 580 East (toward Hayward) and exit Fruitvale Ave (exit 23).  Turn Right onto Fruitvale Ave, then Right onto E. 27th St., then another Right onto Barry Place.  Park on Barry Place.  Tools and instruction provided.  Minors need a signed waiver to participate.  Contact Sheelah at sheelahw at juno.com with questions and to RSVP.
 
* Solstic Planting at the Bridgeview Trailhead


Saturday, 12/11, 9:30am-noonHelp the Friends of Sausal Creek plant native species, remove invasive species, and spread mulch to restore habitat along the beautiful Bridgeview Trailhead. We will provide tools, gloves, and instruction. Please wear long sleeves, long pants, layers for any type of weather, close-toed shoes, and please bring a re-fillable water bottle. Minors need a signed waiver to participate (can be downloaded at www.sausalcreek.org). For more information, contact Megan at Field at sausalcreek.org, or 510 325-9006. Directions to the Bridgeview Trail: From Hwy 13 exit Park BLVD and head towards the Bay (West). From Park Boulevard, take Leimert Boulevard, southeastward, across the bridge. At the first stop sign, bear left, staying on Leimert. Go one block, turn left onto Bridgeview. It dead-ends at the trailhead. Park along the street.
 

* Nursery Work Days at the Joaquin Miller Park Native Plant Nursery

Join the Friends of Sausal Creek for an afternoon of native plant propagation, including sowing, transplanting, cuttings and maintenance. You can join us for all or part of each workday. Bring layers and water; we provide tools, gloves, instruction and snack. Drop-ins welcome. Minors need a guardian to sign a waiver. * Fall Gardening at WD Wood Park

Help make WD Wood Park even more beautiful, clean, and safe. Tools are provided; please bring your own water bottle and snack. * Beaconsfield Canyon Work Days
·       Saturday, November 29th, 9am-noon
Help restore this canyon gem in the heart of Montclair. Volunteers clear fallen debris, pull invasive plants, plant and mark natives and extend trails. No experience necessary. Wear sturdy shoes or boots and long pants. We meet at the end of Beaconsfield Place (closest address is 2639), second street on the right as you go up Chelton from Ascot Drive.
