2010 Earth Day events with FOSC:
Barry Place, 9am-noon, Join volunteers for Earth Day in the lower watershed by removing invasive species and cleaning up trash. Please bring work gloves, sturdy shoes, water and sun protection. Directions from the North: Take 580 East (toward Hayward) and exit Fruitvale Ave (exit 23). Turn Right onto Fruitvale Ave, then Right onto E. 27th St., then another Right onto Barry Place. Park on Barry Place.
Beaconsfield Canyon, 9am-noon, Creek Restoration in the canyon; Please wear layers and close-toed shoes, bring water, sun protection and work gloves if you have them. Minors will need a waiver signed by an adult to participate. Take Park Bl. east until it dead-ends into Mountain. Turn right and then bear left as Mountain becomes Ascot Drive. Turn left at Chelton, then right at the second intersection. Email Richard at richard at rkcommunications.com for more information.
Dimond Park, 8:30am-noon, meet at the Scout Hut (below the recreation center @ 3860 Hanly Rd) Help clear invasive species, spread mulch, and clean-up the creek! Please wear layers and close-toed shoes, bring water, sun protection and work gloves if you have them. Minors will need a waiver signed by an adult to participate.
Joaquin Miller Native Plant Nursery, 9am-noon, Volunteer at the Joaquin Miller Park Native Plant Nursery with FOSC this Earth Day! Projects will include propagation and site maintenance. Please wear layers and bring water. We willl provide tools, gloves, and a snack. Minors need a signed waiver to participate.
Shepherd Canyon Join us on Earth Day at Escher Gate (on Escher Drive) in Shepherd Canyon Park from 9-11 am to continue restoration of an area once used as a dump. We will continue our work with clearing blackberry vines, vinca minor, broom and thistle. Other activites include trail maintenance, spreading mulch on trails and replanting with native plants. Bring gloves and small tools if you have them. Dress in layers and wear sturdy shoes. Directions on the www.sausalcreek.org events calendar.
Shoreline Clean-up at Fruitvale Bridge Park, 9am-11am, Come help pick up trash where Sausal Creek enters the estuary. Meet at Fruitvale Bridge Park, which is at the intersection of Fruitvale Ave. and Alameda Ave. Please contact Megan at field at sausalcreek.org with questions and to RSVP.
Wood Park Clean-up and Potluck, 9am-noon, Come help us make Wood Park beautiful, safe, and clean! Snacks, tools, and volunteer training will be provided.
