[Fosc] Barn Owl?

One can hear them throughout the year. The call is a upslurred whistle/screech, pretty spooky actually. Unfortunately the Barn Owl box at the FOSC nursery has yet to have an occupant.

Yep, it's a Barn owl for sure. I've started hearing them these past few weeks too. Barn owls are fairly common in suburban/semi-rural areas.

I have been noticing an nocturnal screeching bird call over the last month. I'm a long-time resident and remember years ago a possibly similar call but do not remember anything in recent memory within earshot (I live alongside Sausal Creek near Wellington). I heard this again tonight, went to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology website to listen to their Barn Owl. This sounds very similar to what I heard.

I'm curious: Has anyone else heard the same thing? Are barn owls common in this watershed?
