*Subject:* A Two-Part Workshop/Restoration with A. L. Riley

With this year’s excessive rain, homes & businesses, especially those
bordering the San Leandro Creek are in danger of shifting soil and trees
becoming uprooted. To help remedy this fluid situation, an expert
speaker, A.L. Riley will be coming to San Leandro in March to illustrate
the basic “do’s and don’ts” for managing urban streams, and the proper
landscaping to support California, with its now very wet soil.

*Two (of the _SAME_)**presentations*will be given on

*Tuesday, March 14 at 6:30 PM at the San Leandro Main Library, Estudillo
Room, *

*and *

*Monday, March 20 from 1:00- 2:30 PM at San Leandro City Hall South

The presentation will be followed by a *hands-on restoration
training*that will take place at *Root Park on Saturday, March 25**. *

This training will center upon biotechnical erosion control measures,
utilizing various soil bioengineering principles that can be designed
and implemented by local volunteers, neighbors, students, stewards, City
staff, and any others interested in low-tech measures that mimic
nature’s own erosion control solutions.

The Friends of San Leandro Creek is collaborating with the California
Urban Streams Partnership (CUSP) and the City of San Leandro to sponsor
this afternoon workshop at City Hall, including participants from the
San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board and local members
of the California Urban Streams partnership. This was all made possible
from a grant from the Schwemm Family Foundation.

Please join Dr. Riley and the Friends of San Leandro Creek to learn
simple, inexpensive but very effective stream bank stabilization.
Materials and tools will be provided for the field work.

Please sign up for both the Presentation (choose a date) and Hands-on
restoration here & make sure to forward it to colleagues:**

Thanks so much,

Susan Levenson
