Thank you, Kimra, for being an important voice in this critically valuable effort. I've heard tales that residents on Manzanita Drive (named, of course, for the Pallids that once covered those slopes) were told by vegetation management inspectors they must remove all Manzanitas on their property in order to comply with fire regs. It's one thing for residents to be ill-informed, but to have the people mandating our actions giving false advice, is something that must be corrected. I will be out-of-town on 6/29. Please keep me in the loop as things develop.

The next public meeting is on Thursday, June 29, 6-8 p.m. at the Trudeau Center. Below is the meeting notice. As the plan gets developed, we are speaking out to make sure it includes 1) recognition of native plant restoration as an important factor in fire prevention, 2) flagging of natives so they don’t get cut or destroyed along with nonnatives, 3) recognition of various volunteer groups (like FOSC) that play an important role in fuel reduction efforts, and 4) employing a biologist to help formulate specific site plans for each city property covered by the plan. We support the vegetation management plan effort as a key step in more effective wildfire prevention.
