Hi Friends of Sausal Creek,
You can view a flyer for the upcoming V-O-Cal weekend on June 8-10
in Joaquin Miller Park at
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B5qlKPc_R4jCbjZseXZXS2dzQVk (the
flyer is attached to this email, too). Please consider volunteering
for part or all of the weekend.
Depending on the number of volunteers, we could make significant
progress on the split rail fencing along the trails through the
redwoods at the Fern Ravine restoration area near Sequoia Arena.
This fencing will protect the redwood understory, allowing the
redwood duff to accumulate and break down into soil that supports
redwood understory plants. This project is a partnership between the
Friends of Sausal Creek and the Friends of Joaquin Miller Park, and
is partially funded by the Alameda County Fish and Game Commission.
The fencing location and design was approved by the Oakland Parks
and Recreation Advisory Commission (PRAC) in March 2012. You can
peruse the Fern Ravine Restoration Plan at
